You wouldn't happen to actually be Airborne, would you?

what kind of leadership advice would you like?
If you are looking for people to train and are actually in Portland, I'd love to participate.

not airborne yet but I'm going to be in, in a few years.

Unfortunetely I am in salem and I am technically grounded but I can do whatever because my mom is not really treating me as I am grounded. the style of leadership I am looking for is being able to control a group of about 5-10 people and inspire them to work.

it depends on their age and motivation. If they want to do whatever it is you want them to do, then it's just organizing them. If they don't want to do it, it's a persuasion issue.
If they are volunteers you can't "control" them tightly as they can simply choose to walk away at any point. If you are offering to teach them things, put the burden on them - if they want to learn then they need to listen and show up, otherwise they clearly aren't serious.

Everyone wants and says they have a good reason to be there rather than just being there to hang out. there are 2 people who say they need parkour and "need" to do it but they are just lazy.

( by the way I am new here and I would like some friends )

Thanks
-Gerber

It's all about motivation from the group of peers, and from the leader. Knowledge of parkour is good to have too.

Good luck with airborne. I'm an engineer.

Oh snap Alex me too, I am almost done with my degree! But ya on the whole leadership deal, it is easy to tell who is commited to training and who isn't. I havent been out much lately not because I have been too busy but been to lazy to train. It seems that parkour became a fun activity but replaced my interest in it with beer.

=(

Makes sure that you're leading through demonstration, not through commands. Your attitude is good, but I don't get the impression that you would quite have the credibility (No offense, I'm not there either). In order for people to start automatically taking your advice and doing what you recommend, you need to both be experienced and skilled enough to wow people and have the patience to realize that you're not going to be a leader until people start to look up to you.

He's right on a few levels. A deep understanding is required to teach other people. You don't necessarily need to be skilled as shit at parkour, however lessons and advice given through experience--rather than conjecture--makes a good leader.

I'm pretty decent at parkour, however there's a pretty big gap between skilled and teacher. I'm working on it. :(

"Naturally we should *all* be training to be a super-conditioned Tyson Cecka/David Belle lovechild."

(You see what happened there, when you think "parkour" what names come to mind? People will naturally follow those names.)

They set the pace; paved the way. I look up to Tyson as a leader in Parkour not only because he does awesome stuff which angers me, but also because of his level of understanding and commitment to Parkour, the fundamental movements and the lifestyle associated with it. I learn something new every time I run with him.
